Shryock Scores Hobo Hustle $2000 Stock Car Main?
By Chad Meyer
Cloudy skies and early sprinkles did little to dampen the exciting action on Friday night at the Hancock County Speedway, with the IMCA Stock Cars competing for a $2000 top prize. Landus was the night’s title sponsor.
Kelly Shryock captured the lead early in the IMCA Stock Car Shootout and motored out to a sizeable lead that he held throughout much of the event. While he was leading, the action throughout the rest of the field was intense, as Colby Fett made a late race run around the outside of the speedway to ultimately finish second. Troy Swearingen was in contention all night and finished third, ahead of Dan Mackenthun and Heath Tulp.
The first feature Shryock won on this night was the IMCA Modified main. Shryock built over a three second lead, however once Jeremy Mills got to second, it got interesting. In the last handful of laps, Mills was erasing Shryock’s lead by a half second a lap at one point. On the last lap, Mills pulled a big slider to briefly capture the lead, but Shryock’s crossover move was just enough to maintain the lead at the checkers. Jamie Anderson, Todd Steinhart and Chad Porter completed the top five.
IMCA Northern SportMods had Colby Fett dominate the feature. Fett survived a late race caution and Josh Appel’s repeated late attempts on the inside to capture his second win in as many days. Alec Fett finished third, while Brian Schrage raced back to fourth, ahead of Jacob Tachney.
For 15 exciting laps, Steve Wickman held off the best that IMCA Hobby Stocks have to offer in northern Iowa. Wickman managed to keep all challengers behind him, holding off Brandon Nielsen, Lucas Smith, Drew Barglof and Cody Hubbell for the hard-earned win.
Early in the year, Joshua Monson scored his first career feature win at Britt, and on this night, he earned his second win in the HCS Outlaw Hobby Stocks. He was followed by Colby Goepel, Josh Sidles, Brandon Nielsen, and Tanner Green.
Racing action resumes at 7pm at the Hancock County Speedway on Friday, June 14th.
