Monson, Krug & Nielsen are Hobby Stock Winners at Britt

The “Colosseum” at the Hancock County Speedway played host to the Hobby Stock Clash of the Titans. The top six from each Hobby Stock feature qualified for the 12 car, 12 lap “Clash of the Titans to conclude the night’s action. The race night was sponsored by Otter Creek Ag and Hussey Equipment Company.
For much of the night, race fans would find Chris Krug running on the topside of the speedway, and Krug used that to his advantage to win the IMCA Hobby Stock feature. Krug, who recently switched to running his family’s home-built Hobby Stock full-time, bettered Brandon Nielsen, Steve Wickman and Dan Hanselman for the win.
In the HCS Outlaw Hobby Stock class, it looked like Joshua Monson would score his third feature of the season in Britt. With a couple laps to go, Brandon Nielsen got to his inside and made the winning pass. Monson held on for second, ahead of Josh Sidles. Bryce Sommerfeld was fourth.
The final event of the evening was the Hobby Stock Clash of the Titans, featuring the top six from each Hobby Stock division. Joshua Monson left little doubt that he was going to earn the title of “Titan,” leading every lap to claim the extra $500. Josh Sidles raced from fourth to claim second in front of Chris Krug and Carter Koop.
Early in the IMCA Modified featured a three wide battle between Zane DeVilbiss, Jeremy Mills and Todd Steinhart saw contact between DeVilbiss and Mills. The result of the slight contact had Mills spinning and bringing out a yellow. When the race concluded, DeVilbiss went on to win over Izac Mallicoat and Kelly Shryock. Mills raced back to claim fourth place.
Troy Jerovetz is still a fan of the Hancock County Speedway. A winner early in the season, he claimed the feature event Friday night. A caution erased his 2.5 second lead and Jerovetz had to hold off a charging Kelly Shryock and Colby Fett. Justin Ades rounded out the top four.
Charlie Stevens earned a long overdue win in the SportMods. It had been since June of 2022 that Stevens was in victory lane at Britt. Stevens held off Colby Fett and Alec Fett who raced up from their ninth and seventh place starting positions. Nate Chodur completed the top four.
The Iowa Black Dirt Nationals take place at the Britt track on Tuesday, July 23rd for the Hancock County Fair races. The speedway does not race on Friday next week due to the fair. All regular classes of cars will be in competition with hot laps at 7:00 pm.
