Flippo Dominates Britt, Smith Get 99th Win
By Chad Meyer
Three different drivers were in the second position at different times of IMCA Modified feature, however Jerry Flippo left them all. Flippo, who has suffered through a summer of bad luck, finished the race more than a half track ahead of eventual second place driver Cody Knecht. Knecht charged from sixth to finish ahead of Clint Hatlested, and Jeremy Mills.
In the IMCA Stock Cars, Troy Sweringen made the last lap count as he made a massive move to the bottom of turns one and two to sweep up in front of longtime leader, Parker Slagle. It was Sweringen’s second win at the Britt track. Kevin Opheim finished third, ahead of Heath Tulp.
Dustin West was fast in the IMCA SportMod class, leading the most laps. Several yellows and a late race red flag proved his undoing as Alec Fett sailed around the outside of turn four in the waning stages of the event. Fett was the winner over West, Nate Chodur and Doug McCollough.
Mike Smith came into the night seeking his 99th career IMCA Hobby Stock feature. After missing his heat race, he was forced to start 13th on the initial grid. He mounted a big charge to the front and passed Brandon Nielsen with two laps for the win. Chris Krug and Steve Wickman finished behind second place driver Nielsen.
Kolby Goepel started fourth and finished first for his third HCS Outlaw Hobby Stock win of the season in Britt. He finished ahead of Tanner Green, Brandon Nielsen and Joshua Monson.
The annual Night of 1000 Stars will conclude IMCA Speedweek next week at the Hancock County Speedway, with racing Friday and Saturday night at the 4/10-mile dirt oval in Britt.
